Cooking With Coconut Oil Is Not Healthy : It Contains More Than 80% Of Saturated Fats

Used extensively in cooking recipes, coconut oil is as bad for your health as palm oil or bacon. According to a study by the American Association of Cardiology, it dramatically increases the level of "bad" cholesterol.

With its exotic note, coconut oil is particularly popular in recipes. However, a study by the American Heart Association shows that it is as bad for you as butter, palm oil or bacon. According to US doctors, its consumption has no "positive effect", so it should be classified in the category of fatty foods to avoid.

IT CONTAINS MORE THAN 80% OF SATURATED FATS

After analyzing data from seven studies, American cardiologists have found that coconut oil increases the level of LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol). Like palm oil, it contains 82% saturated fatty acids. The authors of the study point out that they "did not find any difference between coconut oil and other high saturated fat oils such as butter, beef fat or palm oil".

When cooking, coconut oil can also become particularly harmful to health. We must be vigilant at the "smoke point": the temperature at which the oils are denatured and cause the appearance of undesirable compounds, some of which may be carcinogenic.

The American Association of Cardiology discourages any use of coconut oil. She advises to favor vegetable oils rich in monounsaturated fats, such as olive oil, and polyunsaturated (sunflower, grape seeds, nuts).

But if coconut oil has no place in your kitchen, it is a very good moisturizing mask for damaged hair and is perfect for soothing the skin after sun exposure.
